Project summary
The general objective of the project is to strengthen capacities of children and adolescents to be agents for environmental protection and climate change mitigation in schools of the municipality of Santa Cruz del Quichè, trough:
- Awareness-raising and reinforcement of children's knowledge about environmental protection and climate change.
- Implementation of environmental protection and climate change mitigation practices in the school, with participation of children, the rest of stakeholders of the educational community and relevant public authorities.
Why was the project developed?
Environmental degradation and climate change make the future much more uncertain that never, jeopardising the fulfilment of children rights, now and in the future.
It is therefore essential to work towards strengthening children's capacities and agency, so that they can fully exercise their role as agents of change in environmental protection and the fight against climate change.

- Development and validation of training materials on environmental protection and climate change.
- Training workshops on climate change in schools.
- Tours to weather stations.
- Training of relevant public authorities.
- Use of 4R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover) materials in schools.
- Elaboration of videos, murals and artistic festival on commemorative days.
- Reforestation practices (with educational purpose).
- Development of proposals to mitigate environmental degradation and climate change, with the participation of children, other stakeholders involved in the educational community and relevant public authorities.
- Community awareness-raising campaign on commemorative days.
